Take Control of Tech in 4 Easy Steps
You probably have a dark, scary place in your home where cords from multiple electronic devices are tangled up in a confusing mess. This is very inconvenient if you have to unplug or replace anything, as I found out earlier this week when my internet connection was acting up. Next time you find yourself annoyed with this area of your home spend a few extra minutes taking control with these four easy steps: 1. Unplug everything, untangle.
2. Label each cord near the plug. This may seem like an unnecessary step but it will make your life so much easier. I used my label maker because that's how I roll, but you can use masking tape and a Sharpie if you don't care about it looking pretty.
3. Corral the cords. Figure out how long each cord needs to be to reach the power source and gather the rest neatly. Secure with a twist-tie or one of these great Velcro wraps I found at my local home improvement store. You can also order them online from Staples. 4. Plug everything back in. Do your devices a favor and ditch that cheap power strip you've had since college. A decent surge protector costs a little more but is well worth it.
