How to Eat Better by Planning Ahead

eat better

It seems like we are all striving to eat better, but our busy lives make it a struggle. Planning is the key to making good food choices, so here are some tips to do just that! 1. Simplify breakfast and lunch – Limit breakfast and lunch to just one or two options to make shopping and preparation easier. This may sound boring but it doesn’t have to be. For example, try eating a salad every day for lunch but vary the toppings and dressing to keep it interesting. 2. Plan meals – One of the most effective ways to eat healthier is to prepare more meals at home, but in order to make that happen you need to plan ahead. Make a list of dinner recipes you love and rotate them every week. Create grocery lists of the ingredients needed for each one and save them on your phone, or keep them in a document on your computer ready to print before shopping. 3. Cook more at one time – When you cook a meal, double the recipe so you have leftovers for another dinner or lunches during the week. If you’re feeling really motivated, spend one day a month preparing 30 days of meals to store in your freezer. There are many plans available for this online, and it can be a great way to save time and money! 4. Try something weird – Our eating habits are heavily influenced by upbringing, tradition, and our own comfort zone. If you experiment with alternatives like eating less meat, more raw foods, or smoothies, you might find something you enjoy that also makes your life easier. I recently started eating just two meals a day, and it has really simplified my daily routine. While these ideas will not work for everyone, don’t be afraid to try something new for the new year!
