My Favorite Tools for Organizing the Kitchen

kitchen organization

As a professional organizer I often get asked for product recommendations to help with home organization. While I stand by my belief that getting organized isn’t about buying stuff, there are some items I use in my own home that make storage much easier. This is the second post in a recurring monthly series sharing my favorite tools for organizing every room in your home. If you’re not already subscribed to my mailing list, do so at the link down below so you don’t miss any future installments! Today, I’m tackling the kitchen.

1. Expandable in-cabinet shelf - Making full use of the vertical space in your kitchen cabinets is key to maximizing storage. This expandable shelf gives you an additional level to store smaller items like mugs and bowls, while keeping the items stored below easily accessible. The fewer things you stack in your cabinets, the easier it is to get them out and put them away.

2. Stair step organizer - When storing small pantry items like canned goods and spices it can be a challenge to make full use of your shelves while keeping items in the back still visible. This stair step organizer will do just that, and it comes in two lengths for a customized fit.

lazy susan

3. Lazy Susan - Another awkward storage spot in the kitchen is the corner of deep cabinets or pantry shelves. Lazy Susans (turntables) make it easy to make full use of those areas while still accessing every item. These also work great inside the fridge for condiments!

4. Vertical storage rack - Flat items like baking sheets, cutting boards, and pot lids are best stored vertically inside a cabinet. This adjustable storage rack allows you to keep these things organized and accessible in a minimal amount of space.

storage canisters

5. Canisters - Decanting your dry pantry items into airtight canisters saves space, allows you to see exactly what you have, and keeps your food fresher, longer. I like square ones like these, they make storage so easy and the tops come off completely for ease in cleaning.

clear bins

6. Clear bins - Bins are perfect for accessing the full depth of the storage shelves in your cabinets, pantry, fridge, or freezer. They also corral bagged items that tend to fall over and get lost. I use several of these shoebox-sized ones in my kitchen (without the top) for easy access of the items inside. I even have some under my sink to hold cleaning supplies.
